Migrant Women Association Malta was launched on the 15th of April 2015 with the mission to empower asylum seekers, refugees and migrant women to help enable them to fully integrate within the Maltese society.
MWAM is enrolled and classified as a civic and advocacy organization with the main objective of the social & economical advancement of asylum seekers, refugees, and migrant women in the Maltese Islands. We seek to work with, empower and facilitate asylum seekers, refugees and migrant women to find their true potential and power to participate and play a positive role in society in the manner most appropriate for them.
MWAM’s president was the recipient of the U.S. State Department’s International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) Impact Awards in 2022. This wonderful award gave MWAM a fantastic opportunity to reopen MWAM’s community kitchen project “SAHHA“.
MWAM was a joint winner of the Maltese National Supporting Business Award 2023, organized by the Commerce Department together with the Enterprise Policy and Schemes Directorate within the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Small Business, which celebrates the role of the public sector in creating the right environment for business. This recognizes the success of the SAHHA kitchen project in providing crucial training and employment for migrant women while delivering a diverse catering service for Maltese companies and society, which improves cultural understanding and integration. MWAM represented Malta in the European Enterprise Promotion Awards in Spain in November 2023.
